SMART Technologies Inc. Supports the Intel® Model School Program

More than US$220,000 worth of classroom technology donated to three model schools to enhance the quality of education

Boston, MA --- October 1, 2002 --- At the first of three ribbon-cutting ceremonies, SMART Technologies Inc. announces its support of the Intel Model School Program. SMART has donated more than US$220,000 worth of classroom technology products and teacher training to three selected schools: TechBoston Academy in Brighton, MA, Miami Carol City Senior High School in Miami, FL, and Whitney High School in Cerritos, CA.

The Intel Model School Program aims to improve the quality of the education experience for both teachers and students using leading-edge technology. It links school districts to hardware vendors, software developers and service providers, delivering the tools and resources school districts need to support technology use in the classroom.

“SMART is a longtime supporter of education-related programs, and we are pleased to be a part of the Intel Model School Program,” says Nancy Knowlton, president and COO of SMART Technologies Inc. “SMART formed a strategic alliance with Intel in 1992, and we are proud to work together at creating the school of the future and increasing the quality of education by using technology in the classroom.”

“Intel is very pleased that SMART has joined the Intel Model School Program,” says Terry Smithson, Americas Education Marketing Manager for Intel. “It’s exciting to see how SMART products enhance the education experience and inject fun into the learning environment.”

Product Donations
SMART has provided SMART Board interactive whiteboards, Sympodium interactive lecterns, Expression mobile multimedia cabinets, SMART Camfire whiteboard cameras, SynchronEyes computer-lab instruction software and SMART Ideas concept-mapping software to the Intel Model Schools program.

These products enhance the education experience by integrating multimedia into lessons, engaging students in interactive class discussions, monitoring student progress and assisting teachers in posting class notes and assignments to the Web.

About the Intel Model School Program
The Intel Model School Program is a joint effort between Intel and other industry-leading technology vendors that wish to demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating technology into the classroom and curriculum. Two of the Intel Model Schools (Miami Carol City Senior High School and Whitney High School) will receive more than US$5,000,000 in products and services. With the goal of measuring the program's effectiveness, Converge magazine will report on technology adoption rates and student performance in a series of monthly articles.
